Description
Winery: Korenika & Moskon (Demeter, vegan)
Date of establishment: 1984
Location: Izola, Istria, Primorska
Winemaker: In 1984, Miran Korenika and Ignac Moskon decided to revive the Slovenian wine tradition by establishing their own, eponymous winery. They started bottling wine here under their own name in 1990. Nowadays the winery is run by Miran’s son, Matej Korenika. The vineyard’s unique hillside location overlooking the sea and the salt pans of Secovlje creates a unique selection of wines. Korenika & Moskon applies the prestigious Demeter guidelines, both in the vineyard and in the cellar, meaning their biodynamic wines are made with respect for the environment and animal welfare.
Type: Dry orange · 100% malvasia · 14.5% alcohol
Vinification: Maceration (contact with the skins) for 18 days without pressing and fermentation in stainless steel tanks and no added cultivated yeasts. Followed by malolactic fermentation and 6 years ageing in large oak tanks (500 l). The wine is neither fined nor filtered.
Tasting notes: A very aromatic golden-yellow wine with a full aroma of ripe yellow fruit, wood, vanilla and pronounced minerality (substrate of marine sediments, marl and limestone). A ripe full orange wine.
Food pairing: The perfect wine to serve with lamb or goat. Equally tasty with oven dishes with oily fish or with mature cheese.
