Winery: Korenika & Moskon (Demeter, vegan)
Date of establishment: 1984
Location: Izola, Istria, Primorska
Winemaker: In 1984, Miran Korenika and Ignac Moskon decided to revive the Slovenian wine tradition by establishing their own, eponymous winery. They started bottling wine here under their own name in 1990. Nowadays the winery is run by Miran’s son, Matej Korenika. The vineyard’s unique hillside location overlooking the sea and the salt pans of Secovlje creates a unique selection of wines. Korenika & Moskon applies the prestigious Demeter guidelines, both in the vineyard and in the cellar, meaning their biodynamic wines are made with respect for the environment and animal welfare.
Type: Dry orange · 100% malvasia · 12.5% alcohol
Vinification: Maceration (contact with the skins) for 48 hours, pressing and fermentation in stainless steel tanks without the addition of cultivated yeasts, followed by malolactic fermentation and 10 months ageing in stainless steel tanks sur lie. Some filtering and fining with bentonite.
Tasting notes: Aromatic golden-yellow wine with a full aroma of ripe yellow fruit and a hint of minerality (substrate of marine sediments, marl and limestone). A nice, full finish with a hint of underlying bitterness.
Food pairing: Pairs well with spicy food such as a Thai curry, Indian dishes or well-seasoned Moroccan dishes. It can also be served with grilled fish and crustaceans or a mild blue cheese.
