Paul and Karine are the driving force behind Slovenian Wines.
In 2016 we discovered Slovenia. It was love at first sight. Slovenia is a beautiful country with striking natural landscapes and a rich wine culture that truly deserves to be discovered.
What appeals to us most is the warmth and hospitality of the Slovenian people, and the pride with which they craft their wines. Patience is deeply rooted in Slovenian culture. Nothing is rushed. Wines are given the time they need to mature, sometimes over many years, with great respect for tradition and terroir. That patience is clearly reflected in the glass.
Our connection to Slovenia and its wines
Generations of winemakers have carefully tended their vineyards, allowing each new generation to work with high-quality grapes from the very start. We greatly admire this sense of dedication and continuity. Today, the ambition to show the world what Slovenian winemakers are capable of is clearly felt.
Throughout Slovenia, respect for nature is a guiding principle. Many winemakers work with little to no chemical intervention in the vineyard and often rely on indigenous yeasts from their own grapes. In the cellar, a philosophy of minimal intervention prevails, with sulfites kept to a minimum. Wines are frequently neither fined nor filtered. This approach results in pure, honest flavors that are characteristic of Slovenian wines. It is therefore no coincidence that several estates carry organic or Demeter certification.
