Description
Winery: Krapez
Date of establishment: 1928
Location: Vrhpolje, Vipava Valley, Primorska
Winemaker: The Krapez Winery was founded by Josef Krapez at the beginning of the 20th century. What began as part of a cooperative had 50 years later, under the management of his son Josef Junior, developed into an independent, mature winery that follows its own approach. In the 1990s, the third generation of the Krapez family went a step further, bottling their own wine. Today the winery is reaping the fruits of this quest of several years for quality and unicity.
Type: Dry white · 40% chardonnay, 40% pinela, 20% rebula · 13% alcohol
Vinification: Fermentation of chardonnay and pinela in stainless steel tanks until 2/3 of the sugars are fermented. The wines are then transferred to oak barrels to which rebula grapes with their skins are added. The subsequent fermentation takes place without temperature control. Maturation in oak barrels for 2 years, followed by another 6 months in stainless steel tanks and 6 months in the bottle.
Tasting notes: A golden-yellow wine with aromas of ripe yellow fruit as well as toasted hazelnuts and almonds. A warm dry but fresh and mineral taste. Noticeable roasted and vanilla notes in the long finish. A harmonious, intense, full-bodied, ripe wine. Has an ageing potential of up to 7 years, but can also be consumed now.
Food pairing: Nice with smoked fish, veal and mature cheeses.
