Description
Winery: Korenika & Moskon (Demeter, vegan)
Date of establishment: 1984
Location: Izola, Istria, Primorska
Winemaker: In 1984, Miran Korenika and Ignac Moskon decided to revive the Slovenian wine tradition by establishing their own, eponymous winery. They started bottling wine here under their own name in 1990. Nowadays the winery is run by Miran’s son, Matej Korenika. The vineyard’s unique hillside location overlooking the sea and the salt pans of Secovlje creates a unique selection of wines. Korenika & Moskon applies the prestigious Demeter guidelines, both in the vineyard and in the cellar, meaning their biodynamic wines are made with respect for the environment and animal welfare.
Type: Dry white · pinot blanc, malvasia and sauvignon blanc · 13.5% alcohol
Vinification: Maceration (contact with the skins) for 36 hours, pressing and fermentation in stainless steel tanks without the addition of cultivated yeasts, followed by malolactic fermentation. The wine spends another six months on the lees (sur lie) after which it is slightly filtered and fined with bentonite.
Tasting notes: A lovely, full-bodied, yellow-golden wine with impressions of ripe yellow fruit and ripe apple, supplemented with pronounced floral and mineral notes.
Food pairing: Great with salads with fresh herbs and fish dishes.
