Description
Winery: Krapez
Date of establishment: 1928
Location: Vrhpolje, Vipava Valley, Primorska
Winemaker: The Krapez Winery was founded by Josef Krapez at the beginning of the 20th century. What began as part of a cooperative had 50 years later, under the management of his son Josef Junior, developed into an independent, mature winery that follows its own approach. In the 1990s, the third generation of the Krapez family went a step further, bottling their own wine. Today the winery is reaping the fruits of this quest of several years for quality and unicity.
Type: Dry red · 65% cabernet sauvignon, 35% merlot · 13% alcohol
Vinification: Fermentation, maceration (contact with the skins) for 14 days, pressing and storage in barriques.
Tasting notes: Scarlet red wine, intense on the nose, aroma of extremely ripe dried red fruit, as well as notes of spices such as juniper. A warm fruity wine with nicely balanced tannins.
Food pairing: Great with red (dry-aged) meat and game, but also pairs well with aged, strong cheese.
